Oregon Vs. Wisconsin Predictions | March Madness Round 1 Betting

12 Oregon Ducks vs. 5 Wisconsin Badgers Betting Preview

Wisconsin had a rough draw. Taking on the red hot Oregon Ducks as early as the first round might be a little harsh for the Badgers. But we the fans are the winners as we get one of the best matchups of March Madness’ second day. Let’s throw the cliché stat out there. Only five times since 1985 the No. 12 seed failed to defeat a 5-seed during the Madness. For years, we have heard the matchup between the 5 vs. 12 is where upset happens. Well, that might not be entirely true.

What is undeniable is that the Wisconsin vs. Oregon spread is a little low for 5 vs. 12 seeds matchup. The betting line at MyBookie.ag opened with the Badgers as 1-point favorites. 69% of the best jumped on the dogs. The March Madness odds have moved since then, climbing up to 2.5-points on Wednesday and then it went back to 2-points. Oregon is the hot team in this one. The Ducks enter this tournament with eight wins in a row, including a 20-point spanking over Washington in the Pac-12 tournament final. The team can be a dark horse if the opponents don’t give them enough respect.

During their eight-game winning streak, only Arizona State scored over 65 points against them. At +115 to win outright, the implied probability of beating the Badgers is at 46% for the Ducks. That’s not bad at all, considering Wisconsin is a powerhouse is College Hoops, accustomed to making deep runs in the tournaments.

The Badgers had a weak showing in the Big Ten matchup against Michigan State. Wisconsin was held to 55 points by the Spartans, and their offense stalled when they needed it the most. Only 37% of the bets are coming on the side of the Badgers, and that’s because Oregon is rolling lately. An early exit by Wisconsin would be kind of a shock. Since 2013, they haven’t been eliminated in the first round, not to mention they have reached at least the Sweet Sixteen in four of the previous five seasons.

Badgers’ senior Ethan Happ will be the best player on the floor when Oregon and Wisconsin take the stage. But Happ by himself is not good enough to beat a team that feels in the zone right now. I see a lot of value on getting Oregon +2, but this is one of the matchups where a big payday might be in line. The Ducks come to this meeting playing their best basketball of the season. More than just taking the points, I’m grabbing Oregon to send Wisconsin home. Taking the dog in the money line should be the way to go here. What’s the play? Both Oregon +2 and the money line +115.
