Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons – NFL Week 2 Betting Picks And Odds
The Atlanta Falcons had one of the most embarrassing showings in week 1. Bouncing back in week two won’t be easy as they host the Super Bowl contenders Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football.
Eagles vs. Falcons Odds – NFL Season Week 2
The oddsmakers at MyBookie.ag opened this game as a Pick’em. Yet, just minutes later they moved the line to Philadelphia -1. The betting line kept going up until it reached -2 on Friday.
I don’t expect any more movement from now and until Sunday Night. The game total opened at 51 points and now is at 52.5.

When the Eagles were 17-points down at home to the Washington Redskins last week, I was a little worried. Don’t get wrong I was playing Washington +9.5, but Philadelphia is one of my favorites to win the Super Bowl.
It took the Eagles a little time, but they finally figured it out, and things went back to normal. QB Carson Wentz looked sharp posting 313 yards and three scores.
Wentz realized very quickly DeSean Jackson is pretty much unguardable on deep passes. Like every kid with a new toy, I expect Carson to go to Jackson until he gets bored.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons Betting Preview
The Eagles offense should have a field day against the Falcons defense. Last week, Atlanta couldn’t stop Viking’s running back Dalvin Cook (21 car, 111 yards, 2 TDs) as much as they tried.
If you had never seen Dalvin play before you would have thought he is the best running back in the NFL, considering how untouchable he looked.
Philadelphia Posted 123 Rushing Yards
Philadelphia used a running back committee last week against Washington. Between Darren Sproles, Jordan Howard and rookie Miles Sanders the team posted 123 rushing yards.
Let’s be clear; the Redskins defense is a lot better than the Falcons. But even if the Eagles can’t establish the run like Minnesota did, Carson Wentz has too many weapons to his disposal.
Not only DeSean Jackson, but Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz make the Eagles one of the best offenses in the NFL. They are loaded on this side of the ball.
What Atlanta Falcons Bring To The Game
I had high hopes for the Falcons; I must be honest. I wasn’t expecting a win in Minnesota, but boy, did they look awful. Atlanta has too many offensive weapons to look as miserable as they did a week ago.
The 28-12 loss to Minnesota doesn’t even tell the entire story. The Vikings were up 28 points by the third quarter. Those 12 points scored by Falcons came in garbage time and were celebrated only by the fantasy owners of Matt Ryan, Calvin Ridley, and Julio Jones.
Will Atlanta play this lousy on Sunday night? I don’t think so. But Matt Ryan is on his third different offensive coordinator in the last four seasons.
What I expected from the Falcons offense was not there against the Vikings. It looked out of sync, and that’s concerning. Being at home will surely help the Falcons have a better performance on Prime Time.
What About QB Matt Ryan?
The Falcons have had problems giving QB Matt Ryan time to throw the football. Ryan was on the run against Minnesota. He ended up throwing two interceptions because he never felt comfortable with the protection.
But this game looks like a classic shootout between offenses. Atlanta has been involved in plenty of those over the last two seasons, and it usually ends on the wrong side of the result.
The front office selected two offensive linemen in the first round of the 2019 draft to improve the o-line, but Ryan was still sacked four times in Minnesota.
Also, the team announced rookie Chris Lindstrom is headed to IR due to a foot injury. Protecting Matt Ryan remains a considerable problem for Atlanta despite the effort of the front office.
Eagles vs. Falcons Betting Prediction
Taking the points at home is always a good move during Prime-Time games. Last week, the Raiders +2.5 reminded us of that when beating the Broncos outright. But there is a big difference in talent between Philadelphia and Atlanta.
The Eagles’ roster is loaded with skill on both sides of the ball but especially on the offensive side. PFF ranked their offensive line as the best entering the 2019 season.
We shouldn’t forget that. Philadelphia is not only talented, but they have the right people to protect Carson Wentz.
The Falcons offense is talented, but the protection of Matt Ryan is a huge issue. It’s hard to find Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Mohamed Sanu if their QB doesn’t have any time to throw the football.
Atlanta is a good team and will figure out their identity at some point in the season, but their issues are not fixable from one week to the next. I’m going with the best team. Bet Eagles -2.
