What The NFL Odds Say About The Steelers vs. Chargers Week 6 Matchup
The Chargers were -7 when the betting line opened, but over the last few days, it dropped half a point.
At some sportsbooks, you can still get Pittsburgh +7, but that number looks rare now as most are settling for -6.5.
Pittsburgh Steelers Edge Against The Chargers
It’s hard to make a case for the Steelers with a third-string QB listed as the starter. The silver lining is the undrafted rookie Devlin Hodges played for Samford and is the all-time school leader with 14,584 yards, 111 TDs, and 41 interceptions.
In front of Hodges will be one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL. During the offseason, the Chargers were discussed to be one of the franchises that could represent the AFC in Super Bowl LIV. Instead, they are 2-3, with two of those defeats coming at home.
Los Angeles has been hit with multiple vital injuries once again. On defense, safety Derwin James is the most crucial player missing in the secondary. Safety Adrian Phillips and corner Trevor Williams are also on injured reserve.
Anthony Lynn said Mike Pouncey will have neck surgery and is done for the year. Lynn said he’s thankful that Pouncey will be okay, but does not know if injury if career ending.

Steeler Offense Not Looking Good
On offense, the list is just as bad. TE Hunter Henry went down with a knee injury early on, WR Mike Williams and Travis Benjamin have been in and out of the lineup with different injuries. And just recently, the team put starting center Mike Pouncey on IR.
Beyond Pittsburgh having the edge in the X’s and O’s department, their most significant advantage is facing a severely banged-up Chargers team.
Los Angeles Chargers Edge Against The Steelers
Even with all those injuries, the talent inside the Chargers locker room should be enough to beat a third-string QB during primetime.
The quarterback Philip Rivers has miles and miles on Hodges. Just that is a massive edge on Los Angeles’ side.
Los Angeles needs to thank the upcoming stretch of the season is the way it is. They will face Devlin Hodges, Marcus Mariota, and either Mitch Trubisky or Chase Daniels in the next three weeks. Winning these three contests will help them get back in contention for a playoff spot.
Chargers Need To Take Advantage Of Poor Steeler Defense
The Chargers don’t do anything particularly well on any of the two sides of the ball. They still won’t need to do much to beat the Steelers. Between 21 and 24 points should be enough to beat a Pittsburgh.
The Steelers defense allows 125.8 rushing yards per game. It’s the perfect opportunity for both Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler to shine. Neither has lived to the expectations, but they should have a favorable matchup against a Steelers defense that is a lot better rushing the passer than stopping the run.
Pittsburgh Steelers At Los Angeles Chargers Week 6 Prediction
Don’t expect an exciting game on Sunday Night. The Steelers defense has only one intention, making this game ugly to keep it close. The defensive unit is good enough to make QB Philip Rivers uncomfortable all night.
The same goes for the Chargers defense. They will have what looks like an easy matchup against an inexperienced Devlin Hodges.
When looking at the game total, 41 is a very small number for the NFL. Yet, both teams are struggling on offense. I don’t expect Pittsburgh to score more than 13 points, and I see three touchdowns as the ceiling for the Chargers. Bet Under 41.
