What’s the Rams’ latest betting form to face the Bears?
With the Saints loss in Dallas last week, the Rams are the team with the best record in the NFL. They plan it to keep it that way as they look to close out the season with the number one seed in the NFC. Los Angeles is 3-0 against NFC North teams this season; although last week they struggled to beat the Lions 30-16. The Rams covered the spread as a 10-point favorite, but it was until the end of the game where they were able to pull away.
Jared Goff didn’t have his best day throwing for 207 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. It was Todd Gurley the one who carried with the offense, posting 132 rushing yards and two scores on 23 carries. The Rams have scored 30+ points in 5 of their last 6 games. They have the second-best scoring unit in the NFL, averaging 34.9 points per game. However, facing the Bears defense might be their biggest challenge of the season. They met a similar unit in Denver in week six, and they were held to 23 points despite the win over the Broncos.
The public usually jumps on the team with the best record and the best scoring unit, and in this case is easily the Rams. Los Angeles has been road favorites five times in 2018, covering the spread just twice. The three times they missed were in the visits to Seattle, Denver, and New Orleans; those are all teams with playoffs hopes very much alive. The weathercast says this game will be around 30 degrees by game time. The only time QB Jared Goff played in freezing temperatures (32 degrees or colder) was this season against the Broncos in Denver. Goff was less than impressive posting 201 yards while completing only 50% of his passes. He didn’t throw a touchdown pass and was intercepted once.
What’s the Bears’ latest betting form to face the Rams?
News has come this week out of the windy city as QB Mitch Trubisky is expected to play Sunday Night after missing two weeks with a shoulder injury. The Bears went 1-1 with Chase Daniel under center during that stretch, and it was an adventure, to say the least. With Trubisky back under center, Chicago will have once again their team complete to show they are for real in the NFC.
Mitch has thrown 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions during the 10 games he played this season. While those numbers are not impressive at all, what he brings to the offense is a lot of pocket awareness. Last week Chase Daniel was sacked five times by the Giants defense. Trubisky is one of the best scramblers in the NFL. His offensive-minded head coach Matt Nagy incorporates those abilities into the game plan. The Bears average 28.7 points per game, which is the 5th best number in the league. They can hang around with the Rams if this matchup becomes a high-scoring affair.
This is only the third this season the Bears are underdogs. They covered against the Green Bay Packers losing by one point in the incredible Aaron Rodgers comeback in week one. And they failed to cover against the New England Patriots despite ending the game one yard short of tying the score. Even if the offense has proven they can play well, it is the Bears defense the one who needs to win this game for the home team. Chicago’s defense has recorded a league’s best 30 turnovers this year. They allow 20.1 points per game, and their past rush has put together 37 sacks in 2018; fifth best in the NFL. Disrupting the Rams offense scheme is the key to this matchup.
The play for the SNF game between Rams and Bears?
On a neutral field I would pick the Rams to cover the spread in a heartbeat, but home field matters in this one. Jared Goff is a California kid. He was born in California. He played for Cal in College, and because the universe is so randomly funny, he didn’t have to leave the state to turn pro. He’s yet to prove he can handle freezing weather. A cold night against an excellent defense will be a great test for him and the rest of the Rams’ offense.
I get that is not fun to fade one of the best offenses in the NFL. Yes, we all like points, but there is a lot of value on getting 3.5-points with the home team on Primetime matchup. Chicago’s defense is fast and with lots of playmakers. Grab the Bears +3.5 as quickly as you can because I don’t think that number will be there by the time of the kickoff.
