The Dallas Cowboys will have to show how for real they are this season, when they host the best team in the NFL, the New Orleans Saints, on Thursday Night Football. Finding the Saints as 7.5-point favorites on the road against another team that’s a division leader is a testament of how good New Orleans is this season.

What’s the Saints latest betting form to face the Cowboys?
I think it’s fair to call the Saints the best team in football right now. Their offense is fiercely good, Drew Brees is playing perhaps the best football of his life and the defense feeds of that. They too are making plays. Last week they took down the Atlanta Falcons 31-17 while covering the spread as 13.5-points favorites on Thanksgiving night. It was their 10th win in a row since they started the season with a home loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. How crazy is that the weak Bucs were the one that gave this team their only L?
This season the Saints have been money. Bettors have cashed out nine out of their 11 games if they bet on New Orleans. Their success is a combination of things, but it all starts with their offensive aggressiveness. Over their last four games, they are averaging an insane 43.7 points per game. Between Drew Brees and their two unstoppable tailbacks, the offense just looks overwhelming. Brees by itself is having perhaps his best season. He has thrown for 3135 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. Yet, his most amazing stat is that he has completed 76.4% of his passes, which is absurd.
The Cowboys defense is outstanding. It’s 7th best in the NFL, and at one point it was statistically the best. But in this era are you willing to risk your bankroll on a good defense? It’s a lot to ask. Offenses are dominating the NFL in 2018 because of the rules and creativity. Playing defense this season is about getting one or two crucial stops at any point in the game. It will never be about shutting down the offense altogether.
What’s the Cowboys latest betting form to face the Saints?
The Cowboys have won three in a row and are feeling good about themselves. The game against New Orleans could be either a back to reality strike or a chance to ride their momentum high. Last week they beat the Washington Redskins 31-23 on Thanksgiving while covering as a 6.5-point favorite at home. It was the third time in a row Dallas covered the spread. Somehow Jason Garrett listened to what the public had been saying all season: Just give the ball to Zeke and get out of the way.
Ezekiel Elliott leads the NFL with 1074 rushing yards this season. 394 of those rushing yards came in the last three wins against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Redskins. He also found the end zone each time. The importance of Zeke is evident for the Dallas offense, but he is the entire key for this game against New Orleans. If Elliott gets going early, he will make sure to keep the Saints defense in check while also maintaining Drew Brees on the sidelines. It’s the treatment teams used to give Peyton Manning and Tom Brady back in the day. They can’t hurt us if they are not in the game.
To ask the Cowboys defense to stop Brees, it’s a tough ask, but if he can be limited in their offensive possessions, then Dallas might have a shot at this one. Dallas also needs to put points on the board. It helps WR Amari Cooper look like his old self since he got to Texas. Cooper is coming off his best game of the last two seasons, posting 180 receiving yards and two scores against Washington last week. The play For the TNF Game between Saints Vs. Cowboys?
I’m not going to sit here and tell you the Cowboys recent form is fraudulent. They are a good team trending up, and they should end up as NFC East winners. But they are not at the Saints’ level, and there is nothing wrong with that. Not many teams are. New Orleans showed us last week why is suicidal to bet against them. Last week, they faced a high-powered offense in Atlanta, and their defense responded forcing three huge turnovers.
We are asking an offense that’s averaging 40+ points in the last month to cover a 7.5point spread. For any other team it might sound unreasonable, especially as they play on the road, but not for the Saints. New Orleans is just on fire at this point in the season. Drew Brees is throwing the football to nameless receivers for touchdowns. His backfield between Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram is just too talented to be stopped. And on top of it, their defense is making plays. I like what the Cowboys are doing, just not this week. This is a tough spot for any team in the NFL right now. Let’s take the Saints, swallow the points and live with the result. One of the best quarterbacks in NFL history at the height of his powers to win by eight or more. I’ll take that. Bet Saints -7.5.
