Texas Tech Vs. Michigan State Predictions | Final Four Expert Picks & Betting Odds
3 Texas Tech Red Raiders Vs. 2 Michigan St. Spartans Betting Preview
The Texas Tech vs. Michigan State matchup was not the Final Four many were expecting, but I’ll take it. The Red Raiders and the Spartans have played well enough to be here, and they are one win away from the March Madness final. MyBookie.ag opened the betting line with the Spartans as 3-point favorites, and at some point, it was up to 3.5 points. It settled with Michigan State as a 2.5-point favorite. I can’t see the betting line dramatically changing from now until the tipoff.
We know the Spartans have a coaching advantage with Tom Izzo on the side. Izzo drew a couple of plays coming off timeouts that were the difference against Duke. We know he’s brilliant when a close game is being played, and I would expect this one to be just that. Michigan State hasn’t lost in the last nine outing. All were elimination games dating the Big Ten championship. At this point, every team is rolling, but the Spartans might have a different feeling. Whenever I’m watching them, I get the sense they knew they were going for a deep run and facing Duke was not quite the challenge most people were making it to be.
The Spartans are +170 in the March Madness future odds. That’s an implied probability of 37% chances to win the tournament with just four teams remaining. Only Virginia has better odds. And by looking at how both sides have played, the best bet of the two siding with Michigan State. Texas Tech hasn’t gotten the respect they deserved by reaching this stage of the tournament. The Red Raiders are a defensive-minded team with a good set of players. By taking down Michigan and Gonzaga, they proved they can beat two different of styles in the tournament. It was either the defensive approach of the Wolverines or the high-scoring form of the Zags.
If you want to take the Red Raiders to win the whole thing, they are listed at +450 at MyBookie.ag. That’s an 18% implied probability of winning the tournament, which is not bad at all for a team that has never been to this stage before. Matchup wise I feel the Spartans interior defense has set the tone during the entire road to the Final Four and should stay the same in this game. Also, as much as Texas Tech has an excellent defense, facing a guy like Cassius Winston is a problem.
Winston can play both inside and out. He has drawn the most fouls by any Spartan player during this March Madness tournament and has scored 82 three-pointers all season. He can do it all. I’m taking the Spartans in this one. What’s the play? Spartans -2.5
Spread: Michigan State -2.5
Money line: Texas Tech +130 vs. Michigan State -150
Game Total: 132.5
