Texas Tech Vs Virginia Predictions | Final Four Expert Picks & Betting Odds
3 Texas Tech Red Raiders Vs. 1 Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview
What an odd March Madness final matchup we have in our hands. Two of the best defensive minded teams in the nation will square off for the College Basketball title when the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Virginia Cavaliers clash on Monday Night. It’s crazy to think just a year ago the Cavaliers were embarrassed in the first round, becoming the only number one seed in the history of March Madness to end up one-and-done. A year later, they are one win away from the title.
The betting line for the final opened with Virginia as a 1.5-point favorite at MyBookie.ag. In the next few hours, the odds dropped to one point, and now it’s back to 1.5. Over the next day and until the tip-off, I expect the betting line to be up and down. So, if you like the Cavaliers to cover, give it a few hours to see if it goes back to one point. If you are all in with Texas Tech, take that half of a point now. Coming out of the semifinals on Saturday, I get the sense that Virginia was lucky. Not only because of the three-point shot foul in the last seconds over Kyle Guy; but also because the refs missed a double-dribble play in the previous possession. The Cavs had a 10-point lead with under five minutes to play, and they couldn’t close out the game.
The Cavaliers defense have taken them to this point. Facing them, it’s a complicated task for teams that are not used to playing this type of defenses. The problem for Virginia is they are about to face an equal on Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are also a defensive-minded squad, who prides itself of playing hard defense. After seeing both games on Saturday, Texas Tech left a so much better impression, especially closing out the game. They applied pressure on Michigan State, who was listed as a 2-point favorite and covered while winning outright.
The Red Raiders have held teams to 55.5 points per game during the tournament. Michigan State scored only 51 points on Texas Tech despite being one of the hottest teams in the last month. And during the Elite Eight, Gonzaga scored just 69 points on them. The Bulldogs were the highest scoring team in the nation. I have bet against Virginia all tournament, and it has been a profitable move. And I’m about to do it again.
Although the Cavaliers have advanced, they haven’t covered the spread with consistency. Virginia is used to be the ones applying pressure on the defense, but teams usually don’t do that to them. As cliché at it sounds, Texas Tech is about to give Virginia a taste of their own medicine. If you want to bet the spread, take the Red Raiders at +1.5 or even wait to see if the line reaches +2.0. I’m picking TT to win outright and get their first ever March Madness title. What’s the play? Texas Tech +1.5
Spread: Virginia -1.5

Game total: 117.5
