Thanksgiving NFL Football – Free Picks – Giants at Redskins
The late game pits the Giants at the Redskins. Both the NFC East division rivals are having a tough season. This is the first meeting between New York and Washington this season. They will play once more in Week 17 in New York.
New York Giants +7 at Washington Redskins -7 Total: 44.5
The Giants got their second win of the season in a major upset at Kansas City, where they won the game 12-9 in overtime. They’re without a host of players offensively, including Odell Beckham and Brandon Marshall. The offense has relied on Sterling Shepard and rookie tight end, Evan Engram. Shepard is doubtful for the evening contest, making the offense even more shorthanded.
Washington lost a critical game last week at New Orleans where they led for most of the game. The 38-30-point shootout also cost the Redskins their top running, Chris Thompson. He is now out for the season. Tight end Jordan will also miss another game. The offensive line also has a multitude of injuries, with several players being played on injured reserve. Cousins will likely not have much protection in this one. Washington needs a win at 4-6 and may have to win out the rest of the way to make the postseason.
This one opened with the Giants as -7.5 home favorites. That hasn’t changed at many bookmakers but many have gone to -7 now. Betting action has been heavy on the Redskins. The line has not moved off the key number, however.
I’m a fan of the Giants in this spot and they’re my favorite play of the Thanksgiving slate if you include the early games. The divisional factor means that the Giants will still be highly motived in this spot. I don’t fear a letdown, even with McAdoo losing his locker room. The Redskins defense has also been awful this year. Even Eli Manning may be able to have his way with this defense.
However, Cousins’ lack of protection is the main reason to target the Giants. He should be under siege all game and the offense is missing more weapons than they were last week. I will take the touchdown with the away team.
