What’s the latest Panthers betting form to face the Steelers?
The Panthers are enjoying a three-game winning streak that has put them in second place of the NFC South with a 6-2 record. They are one game behind the New Orleans Saints in the race for the top of the division. Carolina and New Orleans will meet each other in two of the last three games of the regular season. The number one spot in the division is far from decided. Last week the Panthers took down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 42-28 at home.
Carolina covered the spread as 6.5-point favorites. Christian McCaffrey was unstoppable all afternoon, recording 157 total yards and two touchdowns. He was a nightmare for the Bucs defense. It was the third time in a row the Panthers put some money in their backers’ pocket, covering the spread. Carolina’s offense is clicking lately. They have scored 78 points in the last two games against the Baltimore Ravens and the Bucs. While scoring over Tampa Bay is not the biggest task, the 36 points they put on the Ravens two weeks ago was impressive. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner is letting his fingerprint on the offense and especially on QB Cam Newton.
The former MVP has completed 74.0% of his passes in the last two games. Newton has also thrown six touchdown passes against zero interceptions in the previous three weeks. The team has just the right balance under Turner’s play-calling. Newton is getting his name thrown in the MVP conversation while the rushing offense is second-best in the NFL, averaging 143.9 yards per game.
What’s the latest Steelers betting form to face the Panthers?
The Steelers see the form of the Panthers, and they are not impressed. Pittsburgh will get to this contest on a four-game winning streak. After a rocky start of the season, they are on top of the AFC North with a 5-2-1 record; a half of game above the Cincinnati Bengals. Pittsburgh has taken down the division in their last three games, beating the Bengals, the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens on consecutive weeks. The Steelers have covered the spread in the last four games. Check out Steelers’ Betting Guide.
Last week against the Ravens they were 1.5-point dogs in the rematch against Baltimore. Running back James Conner had quite a showing, posting 107 rushing yards on 24 carries against one of the best defenses in the NFL. He added seven catches for 56 yards and a score. Conner is getting used to the idea that this is now his job. Le’Veon Bell hasn’t reported to the Steelers facilities, and Conner is no longer seen as a backup. If the running game is clicking the rest of the offense opens up for QB Ben Roethlisberger. It is that simple.
Roethlisberger threw for 270 yards and 2 scores last week against Baltimore. He was sacked just once all game. One thing to notice is Antonio Brown hasn’t been the kind of factor the Steelers are expecting, especially in the yards department. He’s behind JuJu Smith-Schuster with almost 100-fewer receiving yards in the season. AB does lead the team with nine touchdown catches; seven more TDs than any other receiver on the squad.
The play For the TNF Game between Panthers Vs. Steelers?
As much as both offenses are hot entering the game on Thursday Night, their defense deserves a little respect as well. Carolina has the 8th best total defense in the NFL while Pittsburgh has the 9th best. The Panthers defense also allows 22.5 points per game (12th best) and the Steelers 23.5 PPG (15th). However, Carolina did allow four touchdown passes from the Bucs’ gunslinger Ryan Fitzpatrick last week.
Pittsburgh has allowed only 18.0 points per game in their current four-game winning streak. With a short week to prepare, I always give the nod to the home team. The Steelers have home-field advantage with confidence in their game rising. The Le’Veon Bell soup opera will be an afterthought as long as James Conner keeps playing at a high level. I see the Steelers winning this game with a late field goal. With one of those drives where Ben Roethlisberger takes advantage of the fact that the Panthers defense is gassed. Cam Newton has never beaten the Steelers since he entered the league. Granted he has only played twice against Pittsburgh.
He will give his best game to date against the Steelers, but it won’t be enough. These two teams are essentially in the same situation. Hot on offense, great quarterbacks and rising stars at the running back position; not to mention the defenses are also doing the work. It should be a close one. There isn’t much to separate one team one from the other, except the fact that the Steelers will have the crowd and the home field on their side. Take the Steelers to win but the Panthers to cover the spread. It should be a fun one. Bet Panthers +4.
