Thursday Night Football – Week 16 – New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles – Free Preview and Betting Prediction
The Giants head to the City of Brotherly Love to take on an Eagles team that is mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. However, Philadelphia will still get up to play their division rival, as they can play spoiler to a New York team that needs to hold onto a Wild Card spot.
The Giants opened up as -3 favorites, but that quickly moved to -2.5 at most sportsbooks, despite more than 80 percent of the wagers coming in on New York. Action on the total has been split down the middle for the most part after opening at 42 points. As of this writing, the total sits at 41.5 or 41 points at most sportsbooks.

These two NFC East divisional mates met up in Week 9, which ended in a 28-23 Giants victory at New York. Philly had a chance to win the game, after turning the ball over several times earlier in the game. Wentz’s last ditch throw on fourth down to win the game went just over wide receiver Jordan Matthews’ fingertips.
The Giants – Fighting for Playoff Position
The G-Men hold the top Wild Card spot with a 10-4 record, as they are two games ahead of both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers which have an identical 8-6 mark. However, they still trail the division and NFC-leading Dallas Cowboys with a 12-2 record. New York won 17-6 last week at Detroit, in a defensive-minded game, against an injured Matthew Stafford.
The Eagles – Playing for Next Year
Philadelphia started the season strong under rookie head coach Doug Peterson, but have crumbled down the stretch. The Eagles have lost five games straight, including a 26-27 defeat at Baltimore last week to drop their record to 5-9 and last in the division.
The Eagles had a chance to tie the game with an extra point after scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter but opted to go for the win, instead of kicking the extra point to tie the game. Wentz targeted Jordan Matthews for the two-point try, but the ball was tipped at the line of scrimmage and fell incomplete.
The Eagles are one of my favorite plays on the board this week. This number is suspiciously low, hence the public piling on the Giants. However, as I mentioned above, the odds not only have not moved in New York’s favor, but they have gone in the opposite direction, in favor of Philadelphia.
If you’re betting at recreational bookmakers who line shade – Eagles +3 may still be available. I suggest you jump on that price. However, they’re still a fine bet at +2.5 in this spot.
Philly’s offense performed well in a tough road atmosphere last week and though the Giants defense is arguably better than – I expect Carson Wentz and Company to have success against their division rivals.
No, Philly isn’t playing for a spot in the postseason, but this game means a lot to a young team that is looking to make their final mark on this season and going forward.
Pick: Eagles +2.5
