Thursday Night Football Week 3 NFL Picks – Jets Vs. Browns Prediction

Jets Vs. Browns Prediction Thursday Night Football Week 3 NFL Picks

It’s been a while since the Cleveland Browns (0-1-1 SU, 2-0 ATS) opened as betting favorites in an NFL game. But here we are. The hungry Browns host the New York Jets (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) on Thursday Night Football looking for their first win in a long time. Cleveland hasn’t been a betting favorite since December 2015 when they hosted the then lousy San Francisco 49ers.

The Browns won 24-10 and covered the spread if anybody is interested. For the NFL Week 3 Thursday Night matchup, Cleveland opened as a 3.5-point favorite at Sportsbetting.ag. The line swallowed half a point and is currently at 3-points. The game total started at 40 points and now is at 39.5. Odds below are from SportsBetting.ag. What’s the latest Jets betting form to face the Browns?

Things change quickly in the NFL. One day you are rookie wonder beating the Detroit Lions 48-17 in Prime Time; the next you are dropping a division game against the Miami Dolphins 20-12. The New York Jets have split the first two games of the season, both straight up and against the spread. They were underdogs against Detroit and favorites against Miami in the first two weeks.

Last week, the Jets became a one-dimensional offense. Putting a rookie quarterback like Sam Darnold to throw 41 times is not ideal. The chances for mistakes to happen increased. Darnold completed 25 of those 41 passes for 334 yards, but he also threw two picks alongside one touchdown. New York’s balanced attack against Detroit was a no-show at home against Miami a week later. Between tailbacks Isaiah Crowell and Bilal Powell they ran for only 42 yards on Sunday. That’s a shameful 2.2 yards per carry average. The good news is the Jets are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.

A more balanced attack is head coach Todd Bowles priority to fix. The Jets haven’t been an overall great bet during the past two seasons, but they do excel when playing on a short week. New York is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss.
New York also has the upper hand over Cleveland. But who doesn’t? The Jets have won and covered the spread in the last five games of the series against the Browns. They are also 4-1 against the spread in their previous five visits to Ohio.

What’s the latest Browns betting form to face the Jets?

The Browns could have easily been 2-0 if they hadn’t done Browns things in the first two weeks of the season. Kicker Zane Gonzalez was cut after he missed four attempts that cost the team eight points in a three-point Sunday loss against the New Orleans Saints. Gonzalez had a groin injury going into New Orleans according to several reports. Browns head coach Hue Jackson said he didn’t know anything about the injury. Now, the kicker is gone, Cleveland still is winless, and we have learned Jackson is not a great coach; although, we knew that already.

The Browns were a 9.5-point underdog visiting the Saints last weekend and covered the spread after the 21-18 loss. They are 2-0 against the spread after also covering in the home tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week one. However, this is uncharted territory for NFL bettors at Sportsbetting.ag. Cleveland hasn’t been a betting favorite over the last 37 games. It’s been 1,012 days since the last time the Browns were not the dogs. The good news is the Browns have proven they are not as bad as the previous two seasons. Putting the Steelers and the Saints in trouble, two playoffs teams from last season, shows Cleveland is up to something.

Their defense is the best unit as they held future Hall of Famers QBs Ben Roethlisberger and Drew Brees to 21 points per game. Their offense is the one needing a lot of work. QB Tyrod Taylor has been average at best. Taylor has thrown for 443 yards, two touchdowns and two crucial interceptions in the first two weeks of the season. Hue Jackson is married to the idea of Taylor being the quarterback of this team, but I’m ready for the Baker Mayfield era. And I know you are too. The Browns are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games, but each time they were the dogs and had the points on their side. Cleveland is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games as a favorite.

The play For the TNF Game between Jets Vs. Browns?

Thursday Night games in the NFL are a weird place to be. The short week doesn’t allow teams to be fully prepared for these meetings, and that usually give us crappy games with lots of mistakes. If we add to the mix that the Jets and the Browns are clashing, two of the ugliest franchise in the NFL, then it is a bizarre situation. Betting on the Browns as favorites scares me a little. We are not used to seeing them in this position. Nevertheless, their defense is excellent and could make things problematic for the rookie QB Sam Darnold. The issue is their offense has stalled. I don’t like the spread in this one for either of the teams, but I do think the Browns are in for their first victory in 631 days. Bet the Browns -165 in the money line. Forget about the spread for a second and just go with the home team on a short week.
