What’s the latest Eagles betting form to face the Giants?
The Eagles are coming into this game after losing to the Tennessee Titans (26-23) and the Minnesota Vikings (23-21) on consecutive weeks. They have dropped three of their last four games, if we include the loss to the Buccaneers (27-21) in Tampa in week 2. Right now Philadelphia is half a game away from the top of the NFC East despite their 2-3 record. The rest of the division has been horrible just like them.
Repeating as a Super Bowl champion is nearly impossible in the NFL, and the Eagles are finding out the hard way. The team is significantly different from the one the one beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 52. And there is also the injuries factor. Philadelphia just lost RB Jay Ajayi for the rest of the season due to a torn ACL. Ajayi formed a great tandem with LeGarrette Blount last season out in the backfield. Blount is now with the Detroit Lions, and Ajayi is done for the year.
QB Carson Wentz was listed as a limited participant on Tuesday to give him rest. Tackle Lane Johnson (ankle) was also limited. And RB Darren Sproles (hamstring) did not practice. Philadelphia’s unimpressive offense is averaging 20.6 points per game (25th) this season. Their offensive line has allowed 12 sacks on Carson Wentz in only three games played. Their poor form on that side of the ball has made the Eagles a lousy side to bet on this season. Philly is 1-4 against the spread, and they have failed to cover the spread during the last four straight outings.
What’s the latest Giants betting form to face the Eagles?
The betting public is favoring the Eagles because they have seen them win in the recent past. The Giants have only shown drama and internal disputes over dumb topics in the last few weeks. Most of those comments are coming out of WR Odell Beckham Jr’s mouth. New York is at the bottom of the division with a 1-4 straight up record and 0-2 at home. In fact, the G-Men have only won two of their last 11 games dating last season. Their 33-31 loss to the Carolina Panthers had one good thing on it. The Giants scored over 30 points for the first time in 37 games. They also cover the spread as a 6.5-point dog in Carolina.
Although the offense looked better on Sunday, QB Eli Manning still is the issue in this unit. He’s the reason the betting public is leaning to the Eagles side. The younger of the Manning’s posted 326 yards with two scores and two interceptions against the Panthers. He completed only 61.1% of his passes and looked washed, especially in the first half. The Giants are talented enough on offense to score plenty of points week in and week out. The problem is Eli doesn’t look in sync with the rest of the unit. He did have a good second half in Carolina, but that’s not his usual form. The offense is scoring 20.8 points per game (23rd) for a reason. Eli is holding them back.
New York is 2-3 against the spread this season, and 0-2 ATS when playing at home. The NY Giants have beaten the Eagles just once in the last eight meetings at the MetLife Stadium. They are also 3-8 ATS in its last 11 games when playing at home against Philadelphia.
The play For the TNF Game between Eagles Vs. Giants?
It’s evident neither of these two teams is at the top of their game. Philadelphia is trying to gain their depleted confidence back while their starting QB loses the rust of his knee injury. The good news is Carson Wentz should have more time inside the pocket during this game. The Giants are the worst team getting to the quarterback in the NFL. NY has sacked opposing QBs only six times this season, tied with Oakland as the worst in the league.
Despite the losses against Titans and Vikings, both teams with incredible front-seven defenses, Wentz was able to throw over 300-yards. With time and protection, he should carve up the Giants defense without much sweat. Sure the Giants are at home, and they can’t afford to lose another division game. They already dropped one against the Cowboys. But there isn’t anything they are particularly good at. They are a team trying to find their identity under the regime of an old-washed quarterback.
New York is 2-8 straight up and 3-7 against the spread over their past 10 home games. My confidence level is not high when they play at Metlife Stadium. I like the money line in this one. The investment of -159 over the Eagles is not high enough to make me run away from it. Philadelphia will win. And with the money line number as low as the one for this matchup we shouldn’t worry about covering as 3-point favorites or any backdoor bad beats in the end. Bet Eagles -159.
