Thursday Night Football Week 9 NFL Picks – Raiders Vs. 49ers Prediction

Raiders Vs. 49ers Prediction - Thursday Night Football Week 9 NFL Picks

When the NFL scheduled the duel between the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers they were thinking about a Derek Carr against Jimmy Garoppolo showdown and two teams with playoffs hopes in the battle of the Bay. Instead, we get two franchises with a combined 2-13 record aiming for the first overall pick in the 2019 draft.

The oddsmakers made the 49ers 4-point favorites at Sportsbetting when the line opened. It moved down to 3.5 during the week, and it has settled at 3-points. I can’t see the odds dropping any lower. 61% of the betting public is taking Raiders with the points on the road. The game total opened at 47 points and is currently at 46.5. Odds below are from Deposit today for a 50% Welcome Bonus up to $1,000 on your first deposit.

What’s the latest Raiders betting form to face the 49ers?

At this point in the season, we know the Oakland Raiders have actively weakened their roster to get the highest picks in the next NFL draft. But does that mean they are going to lose the next eight straight games? I’m going to say no. Oakland is coming off a 42-28 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in week 8, but they played hard and were in the game until the end. A fumble by running back Doug Martin at the end of the contest made the score a little higher than what it should have been. The Raiders failed to cover the spread as 3.5-point underdogs against Indy.

They failed to cover in their last three straight outings. After the trades of Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper to Chicago and Dallas, came the season-ending injury by tailback Marshawn Lynch. That pretty much left QB Carr as the only big name in the franchise. Carr has completed 72% of his passes this season but has thrown 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions in eight games. Yet, he looked so much better last week against Colts. Carr completed 21 of 28 passes for 244 yards and three scores. His 136.6 passer rating was by far the best of the season.

Derek Carr might find a lot of room to throw the ball on Thursday Night as the 49ers have the 23rd ranked passing defense in the NFL. San Francisco has recorded only 16 sacks this season (8th worst in the NFL). If the Niners can’t find ways to pressure Carr, he’s going to have another game like the one he recorded against the Colts. Keep in mind Oakland has lost 10 of the last 11 games overall and is 0-5 in their five on the road. This one, however, looks like a favorable matchup.

What’s the latest 49ers betting form to face the Raiders?

The 49ers have lost six straight coming into this game. Their last weekend 18-15 loss to the Arizona Cardinals tells you everything you need to know about this team. Up 15-3 in the fourth quarter, the Niners allowed 15 unanswered points by the worst offense in the NFL. It was their second loss of the season against the Cards. San Francisco is likely down to their third-string quarterback for this week. C.J. Beathard injured his right thumb and wrist against Arizona. It comes down to the second-year backup Nick Mullens

“C.J. (Beathard) would be good if we were playing on Sunday,” 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “But it’s going to be a test for Thursday.” If Beathard can’t go, then Mullens will take over. He hasn’t taken an NFL regular season snap on his career. The most action he has seen was during the preseason, where he was picked three times in three games.

The 49ers will probably lean towards the running game to get the second win of the year. San Francisco has the sixth best running attack in the NFL. However, Tailback Matt Breida has been hobbling an ankle injury during the past five games. Breida has averaged only 42.6 yards per game and has found the end zone just once in those last five outings. Oakland’s defense has a very basic roster without much talent. They have the 19th total defense in the NFL after eight weeks. Their number one issue continues to be pressuring the quarterback. They have recorded a league’s low seven sacks this season. The Niners injury list this week has some big names.

LB Reuben Foster (hamstring) and S Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) did not participate in the practice on Wednesday. Matt Breida (ankle), WR Pierre Garcon (shoulder, knee), RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) CB Richard Sherman (calf, heel) and T Joe Staley (ankle) were all limited. San Francisco has won just four of their last 14 games at home. Since 2000, they lead the series against Oakland 3-2, but they haven’t met since 2014. Check out our 49ers online betting guide.

The play For the TNF Game between Raiders Vs. 49ers?

I get that this is not the sexiest of the Thursday Night matchups, but putting a little money on it will definitely make it a thriller. When two teams are this bad, I usually go with the points. In this case, it would be the Raiders. I’m also getting the better and the more experienced quarterback by taking Oakland. Derek Carr looked really good against the Indianapolis Colts. I know the Colts don’t have a great defense and that’s pretty much what we can say about the Niners as well.

There is a sense of guilt by Raiders, particularly on Carr, when they talk about the season they are giving to the Oakland fans. Especially knowing the franchise will be leaving to LV soon. If there is a win the Raiders’ fan base in Oakland would appreciate is a victory against the 49ers in the battle of the bay. Bet the Raiders +3.
