UC Irvine Vs. Oregon Predictions | March Madness Round 2 Betting

13 UC Irvine Anteaters Vs. 12 Oregon Ducks Betting Preview

If you like underdogs and you bet on UC Irvine and Oregon in the first round, then you cashed in big. Now the Anteaters and the Ducks will meet for a place in the 2019 March Madness sweet sixteen. The Anteaters were 3.5-point underdogs in the first round against Kansas State and covered the spread by winning outright 70-64. This was only the second March Madness game in the history of the school and the first overall win. Back in 2015, they were eliminated by Louisville.

UC Irvine is 150/1 to win the tournament. They are beyond a long shot at this point, but a win over Oregon would put them in the map as one of the March Madness stories to follow. Evan Leonard and Max Hazzard each scored 19 points against Kansas State. Both guards remain the key for the Anteaters if they want to advance deep into the tournament. On the other side, there might be the hottest team in all College Basketball.

Oregon hasn’t lost a game since February, winning their last nine in a row. It includes a 72-54 butt whooping over Wisconsin in the first round of the tournament. The Ducks somehow were 1.5-point underdogs against the Badgers in what definitely was a fluke line by the betting sides. Oregon had three guys with over 14 points while shooting 46.7% from three-point land.

Now the Ducks are 5-point favorites against the Anteaters in the second round. The betting line at MyBookie.ag opened with Oregon as a 5.5-point favorite. Then, in a few hours, the line dropped to 4.5-points and settled back to 5. The implied probability suggests UC Irvine has a 34% shot of upsetting Oregon in the second round. It’s a very high percentage for a team that just won their first ever March Madness game a day ago. That same probability gives Oregon a 71% chance to win and advance. The question is will they win and cover the spread? Or this will it be a close game in the end?

March Madness games are usually decided in the last six minutes. A team chasing to tie the score usually gets desperate and forgets about the game plan. That makes them get an awful shot selection, and then the lead gets overblown by whoever is winning. These still are kids and experience is a big factor, especially in the early round. Why am I telling you this? Because if you are going to bet on Anteaters, then, the value is on the money line to win outright. Just taking them to cover the spread won’t do it. I do believe Oregon is the better program, with the winning momentum on their side. They should win and advance. And based on the theory of bad shot selection by the team chasing the lead, the Ducks should cover the 5-point spread as well. What’s the play? Oregon -5
