UFC 240: Max Holloway Vs. Frankie Edgar – Free Betting Picks And Odds
The UFC 240 event will take place this weekend at the Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada with a sweet lineup. The matchup between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar will serve as the main event and the featured fight of the night.
But also, Cris Cyborg vs. Felicia Spencer, and Geoff Neal vs. Niko Price will have some fireworks. Of course, MyBookie.ag has odds for all the matchups, so it’s time to make some predictions.
Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar Betting Preview
Not many times a UFC Champ gets to defend the title coming off a loss. Max Holloway (20-3-0) will do so after coming up short against Dustin Poirier to claim the interim lightweight championship.
After falling the last time, Holloway will take the octagon to defend his belt on a different category, in the featherweight. Frankie Edgar, on the other side, has been waiting for this opportunity for a long time.
He was scheduled to face Holloway twice in the past, but the meeting never happened, until now. Edgar is a former lightweight champ who moved down in the category to extend his success.
Max Holloway The Favorite
Max Holloway is now a -430 favorite in the money line odds to win this fight. He opened at -450 back in May when the clash was announced. He remains a solid favorite with an implied probability of an 81% chance of winning.
Holloway’s 15 victories in UFC featherweight competition are the most in divisional history. He dominates this weight, and it’s hardly a discussion. Eight of those 15 victories came from a KO and are also the most in the division.
Max’s strongest asset is his boxing; in fact, he can be easily one of the top three best boxers inside the MMA.
He has an excellent defense, but what makes him so difficult to stop and he’s always putting pressure on his opponents. Most of his fights are developed on his terms, and that’s hard to overcome.
Holloway is so good at boxing that some MMA experts consider his jab as a power shot, instead of a weapon to set up a bigger punch. His pace is also another problem.
Because he is so aggressive, opponents tend to wait for him to slow down, but he usually doesn’t. Holloway can go all night.
If you are going to put your money on the favorite, the least you are expecting is someone willing to dominate from start to finish.
That’s almost a guaranteed with Max Holloway. Frankie Edgar is a UFC legend past his prime.
He will enter the octagon with 37-years old and with an official UFC record of 22-6-1. He will be the oldest of the 24 fighters scheduled to compete at the UFC 240. If he wins, Edgar will become the oldest featherweight champion in UFC history.
Frankie Edgar Implied Probability
Edgar must be perfect to take the title. He’s listed +325 to win at MyBookie.ag with an implied probability of 23% to win the fight.
He is 2-1 on his last three contest, but the KO loss against Brian Ortega in March of 2018 still resonates on him. He took it hard after getting knocked out in the first round.
Holloway rarely attempts takedowns, so this fight will be played on two feet most of the time. Edgar needs to take this fight to a wrestling style to have some chance.
If he goes directly to boxing, he won’t stand a chance. Either way, a +325 is not as attractive to bet on a clear underdog.
Frankie Edgar has the respect of most of the UFC circuit, but nobody is expecting him to win this fight. Max Holloway is nearly untouchable in the featherweight division.
Pick: Max Holloway -430
Felicia Spencer Vs. Cris Cyborg Bettin Odds
Cris Cyborg (20-2-0) will take the octagon for the first time since her loss to Amanda Nunes on December during the UFC 232.
To be fair with Cyborg, it seems like everybody is losing to Nunes over the past few months. The defeated was her first loss since May 2005.
She comes in as the fighter with the most victories at the UFC women’s featherweight division with three. But also, her two knockout wins are the most in featherweight.
MyBookie.ag is not offering rounds total just yet, but keep in mind, Cyborg has earned 17 of her 20 career victories by knockout. Her fights usually don’t take long.
What About Felicia Spencer?
Felicia Spencer (6-0-0) entrance at the UFC was highly unlikely when she submitted Megan Anderson in an impressive debut. She’s a former Invicta 145-pound champ with little to none experience.
Some experts suggest this fight against Cyborg comes way too early in her career. The fact is that there is a slim lineup at the UFC women’s featherweight division.
It means whoever wins during the weekend, will take a fight against Amanda Nunes as a big prize.
I would love to say Felicia Spencer has a chance in this fight, but she doesn’t. Spencer needs to grow at MMA before she can take down one of the biggest names in the UFC in the past 15 years. Take the favorite.
Pick: Cris Cyborg -750
Geoff Neal Vs. Niko Price – UFC 240 Betting Odds
I picked this fight because it has an excellent chance to collect with the underdog Niko Price (13-2-0) at +290. Price has earned 12 of his 13 career victories by KO, and that includes all five wins of his seven UFC fights.
Whenever you want to make a play on an underdog, you need to look for someone with the ability to surprise and land a big punch. Price is that fighter. He also has a very small resume for the oddsmakers to overlook him. He’s the right fit for us.
Don’t get me wrong, Geoff Neal (11-2-0) is quite the fighter as well. He is a southpaw kickboxer with a vast range and power. Neal comes in with a tremendous left kick and a very good cross.
He’s very technical and a great tactician, but that might play against him. Neal is not used to facing a fighter with the same aggression as him. He needs everything to go smoothly.
Neal has been surprised in the past by fighters with a similar style to Price.
