Utah Jazz Vs. Houston Rockets Predictions
For many NBA TV experts, the Utah Jazz is dark horse team in the Western Conference. It’s that squad that no one talks about because it is not flashy enough, but has great talent and discipline on both sides of the ball. For others is the Houston Rockets. The team that took the Golden State Warriors to seven games in the Western Conference finals last season and made moves to see if they can overcome that last step.
Both teams have started the season 1-2 but it is too early to set the alarms off. The Jazz started the year with a win over the Sacramento Kings (123-117). They had a heartbreaking home loss against the Golden State Warriors (124-123) and dropped a second consecutive against the Memphis Grizzlies (92-84). Utah has been favorite twice this season and both times failed to cover the spread. The Jazz was an 8.5-point favorite at Sportsbetting.ag in the opener against Sacramento and won only by 6. The same thing happened against Memphis. They were listed as 10.5-point favorites and instead they were beaten outright at home.
The Grizzlies only shot 36.9 percent (31 of 84) from the field, but their defense held the Jazz to its season lowest 84 points. Utah was averaging 123.5 points per game in the first two outings. Scoring shouldn’t be a problem on Wednesday Night. Houston gives up 120.3 points per game (8th worst in the NBA) after three games this season. The Rockets are also 1-2 after losing to the New Orleans Pelicans (112-131), beating the Los Angeles Lakers (124-115) and dropping their last one to the LA Clippers (112-115).
The Rockets won’t have their star point guard Chris Paul available for this game after he got suspended two games for the melee against the Lakers. This is the last night CP3 is out. Without him, either James Harden carries with a more significant scoring burden, or Carmelo Anthony steps up and plays like he used to. I’m thinking Harden taking more shots is probably the way to go. Harden scored 31 points against the Clippers and was not nearly enough. Eric Gordon helped with 21 and Clint Capela with 23, but the team scored only 112 points against a weak LA squad. The Rockets lost two key defensive pieces in the offseason with the departure of Luc Mbah a Moute and Trevor Ariza. Now they are doomed to play high scoring games every night, but I’m not sure they have the right guys to do that either.
The Rockers were favorites in the first two games of the season. The game against the Clippers had them as 2-points dogs at Sportsbetting.ag. It was the first time in this young season they were underdogs. Houston covered the spread only in their game against the Lakers. Houston has won eight of the last ten meetings against Utah, including the last three in a row. The problem with this one is the absence of Chris Paul and the lack of energy Carmelo Anthony has shown coming off the bench. Neither of these two teams is near the top of their games, but both can score in bunches. This one should be a close one. What’s the play? Utah Jazz with the points.
