The last Grand Slam of the 2019 tennis season is upon us. The biggest names in tennis will have a chance to earn the final big prize of the year while playing against each other on the hardcourt of the US Open.
The good news about the 2019 US Open is there are no significant injuries reported at the Men’s or the Women’s side.
Betting on the US open should be a lot of fun right from the start. On the women’s side, Serena Williams will play against Maria Sharapova right in the first round.
Not long ago, this matchup was reserved for the final or the semifinals of any tournament in the WTA.
When and where is the 2019 US Open Grand Slam played?
The 2019 US Open will begin on Monday, August 26th and will go through two weeks until the last match is played on September 8th.
It will be the 139th edition of the Grand Slam and will be hosted, like every year, at the hard courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York City, New York.
There will be 62 players competing for the title. In addition to the men’s and women’s singles categories, there are also, doubles, mix doubles and plenty of other lower-level categories to bet on.
Who are the 2019 US Open favorites on the men’s side?
When talking about the men’s’ side of tennis, there are three names that are above all, and those are Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal.
There is always room for an upset, but those three have been insanely dominant on tour over the last ten years. Let’s see what the odds for the 2019 US Open look like
Novak Djokovic +100
There have been three Grand Slam played this season at the ATP tour, and Novak Djokovic has earned the title in two of those.
Nole took home the first one in Australia, and a couple of months ago did the same in Wimbledon, after an epic battle with Roger Federer.
Djokovic might not be as loved as Federer or Nadal, but he’s arguably the best of the three and the closest to its prime. He happens to be the current US Open champions, so there’s that.
Novak has had a fantastic season, and adding another Grand Slam to his already stacked resume will only help increase his greatness.
Novak Djokovic has 16 Grand Slam wins, and he’s aiming to be the player in the world with the most GS titles when it’s all set and done.
Nole trails Federer by four Grand Slams, and the US Open is the perfect opportunity to cut the difference to three.
Rafael Nadal +400
We tend to think Rafael Nadal can only win during the clay stage of the season, but he has three US Open titles to prove us wrong. The last time Nadal won it in New York was back in 2017.
Nadal recently won the Masters 1000 Roger Cup in Canada, defending his title as a way to prepare for the US Open. He did withdraw from participating the following week in Cincinnati, but he should be ready to go for the last Grand Slam of the season.
Injuries and fatigue have always been issues for the Spaniard. It’s mostly because of his way to play every single point. But this season is the best he had looked since the early days when he entered the ATP tour.
There is a legit case for Nadal to be made for this tournament. His body feels better than in the previous five years, and there is a noticeable improvement on his serve.
We have never thought about Nadal as a strong server, but his performances at Wimbledon and Canada say otherwise.
Roger Federer +600
Sometimes we threat Roger Federer as an afterthought. That’s a dangerous approach when talking about arguably the best male tennis player in history.
His prime is past him, but he remains a very strong player on tour.
Federer has won 20 Grand Slams on his career, including five US Open, but his last triumph in New York happened in 2008. I’m sure Roger would love to win this tournament again, but there is always something that plays against him.
What is undeniable is that at the age of 38, playing on a fast hardcourt surface doesn’t help. It’s especially complicated to beat a guy like Novak Djokovic, who happens to be the last hurdle for Federer during Grand Slam play.
Alexander Zverev +2500
As you can see, there is a significant drop after the leading three names on the ATP. Zverev is fourth on the list at +2500.
He has never advanced the third round at the US Open, but it is one of the upper comers on tour.
Zverev’s best win in the ATP was in 2018 when he beat Novak Djokovic in London. Not much has happened since.
Dominic Thiem +2500
In the eyes of many Dominic Thiem is the wonder boy of tennis, but he hasn’t put those expectations on Grand Slam title wins.
Thiem has won a Grand Slam yet, although he lost two Roland Garros finals against Rafa Nadal in 2018 and 2019.
In the US Open, his best performance was a quarterfinals appearance last season. The hardcourt is always a challenge for Thiem’s style of tennis.
Just recently he was promptly eliminated from the Roger Cup in the quarterfinals, despite being listed as one of the favorites.

Who are the 2019 US Open favorites on the women’s side?
Betting on women’s tennis is a little different from the men’s. Since Serena Williams’ parental leave, there is not a dominant name out there. That also makes the betting process a lot more fun, though. Let’s see the odds to win the 2019 US Open for the ladies:
Serena Williams +500
Williams remains as the favorite in the WTA in any tournament she plays. Serena is too strong to consider any other player the best wager. However, I can admit her prime is undoubtedly over.
In the first months after coming back on the tour, it was apparent that she lacked speed and stamina, although the power was still there. She has gotten a lot better with every tournament she has played.
This season alone Serena is 19-5, but she’s 0-2 in finals. Williams reached the final in Wimbledon and most recently at the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Serena lost to Halep in London and had to retire in the final at Toronto due to back spasms.
The injury also forced her to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters that was scheduled to be played the following week.
According to Serena’s camp, ‘she’s good to go for the US Open. The first-round meeting against Maria Sharapova will tell us a lot about her form.
Simona Halep +750
Halep is now considered by many the best tennis player in the world. She’s having quite the 2019 season after winning her first Grand Slam during Wimbledon.
She not only beat Serena Williams in the final, but it was one of the most dominating showings we have seen in the history of Wimbledon.
Halep now enters every tournament as a real contender. By winning her first Grand Slam, she took a lot of pressure off of her. The US Open can become a place where she confirms how good she is.
Halep’s best result in the US Open was reaching the semifinal back in 2015. It’s also the one Grand Slam where she hasn’t gotten to the final.
The Romanian played the Australian final and won the French Open in 2018. She most recently won Wimbledon, but the US Open has been elusive.
Her preparation for the 2019 US Open hasn’t gone in the best of ways. Halep retired in the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup due to an ankle injury.
She came back the next week and played in Cincinnati but lost in the third round. The nagging ankle injury is a story to follow in the US Open.
Naomi Osaka +800
The current US Open Champion was eliminated in the first round during Wimbledon. After it, she said her mind wasn’t in the right place for the tournament. Now Osaka is looking to defend her title by putting another excellent performance.
The season for Noami started in a big way, earning her second Grand Slam in Australia. But something happened since that victory.
She hasn’t played her best although she’s technically the number one ranked player in the world.
Over the last three weeks, Osaka lost to Serena Williams in the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup and retired in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Masters due to a knee injury.
Despite being the Champ, it’s fair to say she’s not playing her best tennis right now.

What is the prize money for the 2019 US Open winners?
The US Open will have a $53 million purse for the entire tournament in 2019.
The winner of the men’s and the women’s singles will take home $3,800,000 each and the second-place $1,850,000.
