Eliminate Some Teams From The Start

Iowa State and Kansas State are terrible, so they can be dismissed without hesitation.

TCU is interesting because it does have one of the top individual talents in the conference in high-scoring wing Desmond Bane.

In a tournament setting where the Horned Frogs have to maintain a high level of play over the course of a week, it is safe to put them out to pasture as well.

Favorites To Win The Big 12 Tournament

Obviously, given the odds, Kansas is a heavy favorite, as the Jayhawks are considered the best team in the nation. They aren’t without their flaws, though.

Udoka Azubuike is seemingly always dinged up and is sometimes prone to foul trouble. There are quality big men in the Big 12, and all it takes is one bad game for Azubuike to have a seat with foul trouble.

The Kansas Jayhawks do have the premier point guard in the nation in Devon Dotson as well as a future pro in Ochai Ogbaji.

Baylor (+275)

The Baylor Bears come into the tournament stumbling a little bit, but the one constant all season has been the Bears’ defense.

Baylor boasts arguably the best defense in the entire nation, so even when it struggles offensively, it tends to keep the game close.

Jared Butler is a Wooden Award finalist, so if he receives some help on the offensive end, Baylor is more than capable of winning this tournament.

Texas Tech (+950) and Oklahoma (+2000)

Both teams have the talent to make a run through this event, but both are incredibly inconsistent.

If the Sooners’ duo of Kristian Doolittle and Brady Manek or the Red Raiders’ Jahmi’us Ramsey can catch fire, they are certainly capable of leading a team to the title. However, that is a long shot.

The Rest Of The Competitors

Texas, West Virginia and Oklahoma State just can’t be trusted.

West Virginia has the metrics of one of the best teams in the country, but most of that goodness came prior to conference play

The Mountaineers did defeat Baylor over the weekend but lost six of eight games prior to that victory.

Texas has the ability to get very hot and has looked good at times, but the Longhorns rarely string two good halves together, nevermind two straight days.

Oklahoma State just doesn’t have the horses to win this whole thing, but it might ruin someone’s day before it is ousted.

Our Pick To Win The 2024 Big 12 Tournament

The Jayhawks probably win this thing, but I am not sure I’d waste my time betting on them.

Baylor is the only team to defeat Kansas in league play this year and is 12-3 in neutral-site or true road games.

I would place a wager on the Baylor Bears and hope for the best.

It might be worth it to put a small wager on the Oklahoma Sooners at +2000, because they do have the talent to win it, and that number is tempting.
