Expert View of MyBookie Sportsbook
Newer sportsbook with a lot of betting markets and bonuses. Some early complaints and ownership questions, but they’re a sportsbook we can recommend.
MyBookie Sportsbook Summary
MyBookie.ag is one of the new additions to the offshore industry and US betting markets. They began taking bets in August 2014. Sportsbook Review began asking players for feedback on My Bookie in September of the same year. So far, things are going well for the new online sportsbook.
The sportsbooks servers are in Canadian Indian territory, but the company’s base of operations is located in San Jose, Costa Rica. They have a staff that has a long history in the offshore industry.
In addition to their sportsbook, MyBookie has a racebook and a Vegas style online casino. They accept Americans, along with bettors from many other countries around the world.
A Personal Opinion about MyBookie
What We Like About MyBookie
When I first wrote this review, we didn’t have much to say about MyBookie.ag regarding positives. However, that has changed. While they do have some question marks and a short history in the industry – so far, they have been above-average, especially considering their large deposit bonuses and number of markets.
They can be competitive in offshore betting markets if they continue to expand and improve their product. This also means hitting their timeframes when it comes to payment processing with little delays. The sportsbook doesn’t lack options when it comes to deposit and withdrawal options, which is already a big plus.
Their rating at SBR has risen to a C and we’ve upgraded our own ratings to give them a 4.5/5. From our understanding, the shop operation is on the up and up. They’re not elite right now, but they may be a top five option in a few years if things keep up.
What We Don’t About MyBookie
At the top, their management and ownership team features former employees from BetOnSports. BetOnSports was an extremely popular online sportsbook at the turn of the century before the arrests of the CEO and founders in 2006.
The sportsbook closed their doors shortly after and their CEO got almost three years in prison some years. Although there was an attempt at a bailout for funds of US-based players, it never fully materialized.
Players lost millions. There was a liquidation settlement in 2011 where players who filed petitions received less than five percent of their balances at the time of closure. BetOnSports was one of the debacles in offshore sports betting history.
Even before their indictment, they had issues with slow-pays in 2004. This is a two full years, at least, before the UIGEA passed and in the period that many considered the peak years of online gambling in the United States.
MyBookie previously mentioned on their .ag site that their management team was a part of “BetOnSports” as if this was some kind of endorsement. It might fool those who remember the name and not the scandal, but it’s ridiculous for these guys who draw attention to a defunct sportsbook that stole millions from players as an effort to entice prospective visitors to deposit.
There have been slow-play complaints so far as well, and our interactions with support haven’t been great. Sportsbook Review upgraded their rating in June 2015 to a C- from a D+, citing that they had only one complaint so far and that it was resolved.
What Bettors are saying about MyBookie
While SBR has cataloged some complaints from players – all of these have been resolved, and the players paid in full. We also received an email about a slow-pay complaint, but this was resolved in less than a week. A Reddit thread, at r/Sportsbook, has almost all positive feedback in regards to MyBookie.ag.
Betting at MyBookie.ag
MyBookie.ag is a viable new option for bettors in the U.S. As with any newer sportsbook – there is going to be more risk than one that has been around for 10+ years. However, reports from players and our industry contacts suggest that everything is on the up and up.
MyBookie Deposits and Withdrawals
Deposit options are standard for the most part. Visa and MasterCard will work for most players, but they also offer Western Union and MoneyGram and bank wires. There is no charge for Visa and MasterCard deposits, regardless of the amount sent. MyBookie will reimburse fees for players if their WU, MoneyGram or bank wire is $300 or more.
Players can request withdrawals via bank wire, check by courier, debit or credit card, and through Western Union. They began accepting Bitcoin as a deposit method in July 2015, but don’t offer it as a deposit method. All of these withdrawal methods come with varying fees. Unlike other sites, MyBookie doesn’t offer a free withdrawal every 30 days or once a month.
Payout Processing Time
All of their payout methods have a two day processing time according to the time frames listed on their cashier page. Based on some of the complaints we’ve read online, we highly doubt they are hitting these without issues. However, payouts are going out and within two weeks players receive payment in almost all cases via all withdrawal methods. Those aren’t elite speeds, but are in the upper tier of online sportsbooks servicing Americans.
Gaining Better Reputation
MyBookie.ag may have a questionable history and has only been in the industry a short time, but they are turning into a viable option for Americans in offshore betting markets. They’ve had a few complaints, but all found solutions in a timely matter, and all players paid in full. They have excellent software, and their list of markets is large. They also offer one of the most generous bonuses in online sports betting, a 50% Deposit Bonus up to $3,000.
MyBookie offers a number of freeplay bonuses when players sign up and redeposit, but the rollover rates offered aren’t competitive with upper tier sportsbooks.
50% up to $3,000
- 30 Days to Clear
- 15x Rollover
- Frist Deposit Bonus
Their main deposit bonus is a 50% Bonus up to $3,000 in freeplay funds, but if you wish to get the bonus in its entirety, it comes with a 15x rollover. This bonus is available for all players on their first deposit.
Deposit amounts of $45-$300 come with just a 5x rollover, which is probably the best offer that players will receive from MyBookie. All bonuses take 30 days to clear and as mentioned above, players cannot cashout until they clear the bonus.
MyBookie.ag Sportsbook Highlights
Interface and Betting Markets
As far as backend and software, MyBookie has done an excellent job. Their betting platform upgraded since our last review and it is some of the best software online. They may have the best interface out of any US-facing sportsbook. Placing straight wagers and choosing a few selections for multiple bets is a painless process. The software is extremely user-friendly.
The sportsbook focus on North American and US markets. They offer little on foreign sports. They do offer some wagering on the English Premier League and La Liga soccer. This pairs up with the MLS and international contests.
Most of their markets will be centered on the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and both college football and basketball. However, they do offer other sports, such as arena football, WNBA, golf, tennis, boxing & mixed martial arts. They also have entertainment and politics as a betting option.
Aside from traditional parlays and teasers, MyBookie.ag had round robins and if-bets and reverses. They also have a relatively extensive list of futures for each of the major professional sports in the US. Live betting is available for select NBA, MLB and NHL games.
They post lines quickly and offer fairly decent odds on the markets we’ve seen. There are many propositions and markets surrounding each contest for major sports.
However, as mentioned above, there are other sportsbooks with similar markets with better odds that are also a lot more established and trustworthy.
Unclear Wagering Limits
This is where the situation gets murky. MyBookie doesn’t list wagering limits anywhere on their site, other than their FAQ, where they have the follow passage:
What is MyBookie.ag’s wagering limits?
“The minimum bet over the internet is $10 with a maximum of $1,000. The minimum over the phone is $25 with no maximum. If you have the money in your account, you can make the bet.”
It appears that they have no maximum betting limit if you call in, but their maximum online is $1,000. A $1,000 maximum is quite low, making them a sportsbook that caters to recreational players.
However, the ability to call and bet the full balance of your account on any wager makes them an option for higher stake bettors. Once again, though, we’re not entirely sure this is the case. It seems ridiculous to have a $1,000 max bet online but have no maximum bet limit simply because a user decides to pick up their phone.
Related Online Sportsbooks
MyBookie does offer 24/7 support and gives players a number of ways to contact their staff. In addition to phone and email, live chat support is available on every page. Round the clock support is excellent, but the quality of the support is ultimately the most important.
From our limited experience, MyBookie doesn’t impress in that area. Support was unable to answer simple questions and often many answers to our queries was, “it’s on the website.” We expected a more courteous and knowledgeable staff.
Conclusion: A Strong New Addition
We don’t typically see many new sites that leapfrog more established operators, but that may be the case with MyBookie.ag. Their ownership group’s past history isn’t great, but they have some of the best betting software around, competitive odds, and large bonus opportunities. In a few years, they may end up being one of the elite options for U.S. sports bettors.
