Pittsburgh Steelers 2019 NFL Season Win Total Prediction & Betting Odds

The Pittsburgh Steelers had an uncharacteristic 2018 season as the team squandered a late lead in the division to miss the postseason. That has been a rare occurrence under any teams coached by Mike Tomlin, which have been mostly successful.

The coaching staff hasn’t changed much from last season, but two big names left Pittsburgh in the offseason. Their locker room may improve with Brown and Bell gone, but their talent certainly takes a hit.

We’ll analyze Pittsburgh’s offseason moves, along with our thoughts on the team’s draft as we predict how many wins they will have in the 2019 season.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2019 Prediction and Betting Odds

Currently, the Steelers are at 9 wins at MyBookie.ag and they have juiced on the over at -130. The under can be had at even money or +100.

I like the Steelers to win at least 9 games this season. I would go with over 9 wins

Their Schedule Is Far Easier

I predicted the Ravens would win the AFC North last year despite being nearly 4/1 underdogs in the previous season.

This year, Pittsburgh’s roster took a hit, but they have a more manageable schedule in relation to their win total. 9 wins might not win the division, but that’s not what we are wagering on to earn money. I think this team has the roster and schedule to get to ten wins.

2019 Pittsburgh Steelers Roster Changes – Bye Brown and Bell

Running back, Le’Veon Bell, and wide receiver, Antonio Brown, are both former-Pro Bowlers, with Brown a near lock for the Hall of Fame. They’re by far the most significant losses this team has faced in several years.

Bell, notoriously, sat out all last season and went to New York in free agency in the offseason. Brown was traded after disputes with management and quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, to the Oakland Raiders.

Bolstering The Defense

The Steelers understood that defense was a significant issue for them last season. They traded up in the draft for a linebacker and signed linebacker, Mark Barron. They’re hoping the ex-Ram can regain some of his elite play if he can stay healthy.

They also filled a need in the secondary with Steven Nelson. The ex-Chief played better than the porous Kansas City defense. He is expected to start alongside Joe Haden.

Elite Line Stays Intact

Pittsburgh managed to keep their elite offensive line together this offseason. Guard Ramon Foster was resigned, even after they brought back fill-in, B.J. Finney.

Their offense line is easily a top-five unit in the league. Donte Moncrief comes in from Jacksonville in an attempt to replace some of Brown’s targets. He’s a big body that certainly underachieved in his career, but part of that was poor quarterback play.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2019 Draft

The Steelers wanted linebacker, Devin Bush, out of Michigan and they got him. They had to trade up to do it, but they managed to get their man.

Other teams in a division might have gotten Bush if Pittsburgh didn’t move up to select him, let alone other teams in the league. They’ve had a massive void in the position since Ryan Shazier went down with a neck injury in 2017.

Drafted Devin Bush and Diontae Johnson

The rest of their selections were a lot less noteworthy. The team drafted Diontae Johnson at 66th overall to add some depth at wide receiver. Cornerback, Justin Layne, may contribute immediately on defense as a receiver that has converted to cornerback.

Pittsburgh Steelers Schedule And Divisional Competition

The Steelers do not have an easy schedule. They kick off the season at Foxboro against the New England Patriots in Week 1 and face a division that is much improved.

Facing the AFC’s Best Teams

They face the AFC’s best teams, aside from Kansas City. Their schedule is hard but not as hard as it was as last season. Their win total is also much lower.

The Bengals are a notably worse team, but the rest of the division is better. The Ravens are improved from last year, and the Browns are the favorite to win the division at most sportsbooks. I never thought I would be typing that going into this season.
