It is that time of the year again, where the spring and summer weather welcomes all sorts of sports events. Competitive eating, if we can consider it a sport, will also start to see big names participating. The biggest event of the year, Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, is set to take place on July 4th, 2020.
Joey Chestnut will look for his 13th Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest title. Chestnut, considered the greatest competitive eater of all time, will attempt to break his 74-hotdog record this year. He failed to break the record last season by eating “only” 71.
The Hot Dog Eating Contest has gotten a lot of steam lately, thanks to Chestnut’s fantastic performances. ESPN 2 broadcast the event, reaching over 1.1 Million viewers on each of the last 11 editions.
Hot Dog Contest Rules For Beginners

- There are 20 contestants.
- Ten minutes to eat as many hot dogs as you can.
- Disqualification for vomiting.
- In case of a tie, the contestants will go to a 5-hot-dog eat-off. The participant with the fastest time wins.

Most of his competition struggle once they reach 60 hotdogs eaten. Chestnut hit the 70+ mark in the last four straight years. Nobody else has come close.

Women’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Prop Bets
There is a women category, as well. New York’s Miki Sudo is the current champion and favorite to win the contest again in 2020.
Sudo has won the last five Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contests in a row. Her record is 41 hot dogs, eaten back in 2017. Over the previous two years, she won the contest, but with fewer numbers than expected. She ate 37 in 2018 and 31 in 2019.
The all-time record belongs to Sonya Thomas with 45. She set the record in 2012.
Will Miki Sudo Win The 2020 Nathan’s Contest?
Miki Sudo doesn’t have the reputation of Joey Chestnut, but she’s just as impressive. Five straight Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest first places will put anybody as the one to beat.
However, if you are looking for an upset, there might be value on the NO +600. She participated in other eating contests and hasn’t had the same success.

Sudo earned second places at the 2016 World Meat Pie Eating Championship, 2016 World Birthday Cake-Eating Championship, and 2016 Shrimp Cocktail-Eating Championship. Since then, she’s been focusing on the Hot Dog Eating Contest.
She’s the favorite to win, but there is room for an upset.
